The exterior stair on the back of the house accessed this area to be used as a bedroom and office. It had it’s own ductless heat and a/c system as well as skylights with city views. Wonderful insulation and 4×6 floors that gave solidity and noise reduction. 
The historic window was re-used through a rule that allows a small percentage of old glass in projects in older homes.
